On Sunday, January 11th, Wilf Campus residents enjoyed an art show displaying some amazing pieces by their very own talented community members. “Through Your Eyes” Art Exhibit was sponsored by The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission with classical music by Megan Belansky and Zachary Sidgi. The residents had a wonderful time displaying their art work with the community, family and friends.
Ellen Kabot is 71 years young and has always been an ardent observer but now after taking the Through Your Eyes Art Class has fallen in love with drawings & paintings and began painting for the first time. She graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in English & Education. Ellen worked as an English & Special Needs Teacher. Ellen enjoys reading, gardening, swimming & watching old black & white films. Born in Belleville, New Jersey, Ellen now resides at Wilentz Senior Residence at The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living.
Diane Paradino is 72 years young and began her painting career this year in the Through Your Eyes Art Class. She graduated from Bayridge High School. Diane worked as a data processor for support services in the United States Navy working as a travel agent, Diane loved to travel. Diane enjoys exercise, swimming, shopping, trips to the zoo and spending time with her family. She has 2 sons, and 4 grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Diane now resides at Stein Assisted Living at The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living.
Evelyn Kahn is 95 years young. She started painting for the first time in the Through Your Eyes Art Class. She graduated from Roosevelt High School located in the Bronx. Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for textile companies most of her adult life. She enjoys going to Orchard Beach located in the Bronx, making art projects and loved to shop at Abraham & Strauss & Alexander’s. She has 2 daughters and 1 grandson. Evelyn, born in Warsaw, Poland, came to America when she was 8 years old and now resides at Stein Assisted Living.
Ethel Rimmer is 84 years young. She has had experience with the arts through her volunteer work with children at Fordham Hospital located in the Bronx. However, this is Ethel’s first experience as an artist in this medium while participating in The Through Your Eyes Art Class. Ethel graduated from George Washington High School and took courses at Fashion Institute of Technology in Fashion Design. She worked as a receptionist for Klies Lighting. Ethel enjoys the Jersey Shore especially Seaside Heights, where she has many fond memories. She has 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Born in Bronx, New York, Ethel now resides at Stein Assisted Living Residence at The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living.
Frances Freidman is 88 years young and began painting in an art class at the Newark Art Museum. She also studied art at the Montclair Art Museum. While residing in West Orange, Fran taught people with dementia how to paint at the Daughters of Israel home for the Aged. She has worked with famous artists. Frances graduated from OSU with a BA in psychology & Columbia University with a Master’s Degree in early childhood education. Frances worked as a teacher and she taught nursery and kindergarten in NYC. She enjoys classical and jazz music and likes to read old English literature from Shakespeare. Frances has a daughter & a son. Frances also has 2 grandchildren. Born in New York City, Frances now resides at Stein Assisted Living at The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living.
