For this month’s employee highlight, we got to know Wilf Transport‘s Director of Transportation Services Bradley King. Joining the Wilf Campus this past December, Brad brings 18 years of experience in transportation for special needs populations.
After attending Albright College where he studied Criminal Justice, Brad went on to work for Matheny School and Hospital in Peapack, NJ. Having grown up around the specialized hospital and volunteering there as a child, he has had early experience working with special needs populations. “Matheny taught me a lot about patience, compassion, looking past a person’s disabilities and highlighting their abilities,” Brad shares of his time there.
Throughout his career, Brad has continued to pursue and obtain various certifications in an effort to enhance his industry expertise. Currently, he is a Certified Community Transit Supervisor, Certified Safety and Security Officer, and is certified in Professional Dispatching as well as Scheduling Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity training. Additionally, Brad has had the opportunity to attend various local and national conferences on transportation safety — presenting on the topic of Wheelchair Transportation Safety at some.
It is through these opportunities, Brad expressed, that he has been able to grasp the need for greater awareness throughout our state when it comes to transporting individuals with special needs. Bringing this experience to Wilf Transport, Brad and the department have begun to identify gaps in local services with hopes to become a primary provider to accommodate those in need. Garnering feedback from our customers, residents and community is a primary way in which he hopes to improve the agency:
“I appreciate feedback from those we serve for two reasons. It is very important for positive feedback about services we provide to be shared directly with the drivers doing all the work. Driving is a tough job, navigating the busy New Jersey roads and dealing with other motorists can be stressful all while providing a safe and efficient service to our passengers. On the contrary, constructive criticism provides me and the team opportunities to improve and gain a greater level of understanding of what passengers need or want,” Brad shared.
Outside of his work, Brad enjoys many hobbies. He’s an avid golfer and huge sports fan all-around – having played on both the soccer and golf team during his time at Albright College. In fact, he grew up playing on traveling soccer teams which took him as far as Liverpool, England. Brad also had the opportunity to play on some of the worlds top rated golf courses during his own travels in Scotland. As for his home life, Brad is now living in Hillsborough with his wife Kelly, two daughters; Savannah and Hailey, and son, Brooks who was born just this month!
“Since joining the Wilf Transport team in early December, I am grateful for the warm welcome by all campus employees and am motivated by the opportunity to turn our operation into a recognized leader in specialized transportation services.” – Brad King
