Thanksgiving is a time for reflection. Thanksgiving is day to focus on the gratefulness of living in a nation whose guiding principles are of freedom and equal justice under the law. For Jews, Thanksgiving is a day to express our deepest gratitude for being afforded this country, the United States, in which we are able to worship as we should desire and practice our traditions in a sanctuary of peace. We express our prayer to G-d that the United States should continue to be a haven for “the tired, the poor and the huddled masses” (Emma Lazarus), for those seeking freedom from tyranny and freedom from persecution.
