Course Outline:
Posttraumatic symptoms in elderly vs. younger generation – 50 minutes
Sensitivity to under-diagnosed posttraumatic disorders – 50 minutes
The dangers of unintentional dehumanization – 30 minutes
Best practices for treatment of posttraumatic reactions – 50 minutes
Evaluation Period – 15 minutes
Objectives:
- Prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder in the elderly population
- Complicated adaptation to aging and end-of-life issues due to prior trauma
- Simple and pragmatic ways to counter dehumanizing processes
- Approaches to the treatment and management of trauma-related behaviors in the elderly
Target Audience: entry, immediate, and advance social workers who work in geriatric settings. Certificates will be distributed at the end of class upon completion of written course evaluations.
