Board Member Spotlight: Mindy Altschul, Secretary

For this month’s Board Member spotlight, we spoke with Somerset native, Mindy Altschul, who joined the Wilf Campus Board of Trustees in 2015. Today, she remains connected to the campus in her role as secretary of the board.

Interestingly, Mindy’s history with the campus began when she was just 13 years old. At the time, she volunteered at what was then The Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged — the building that began the forty-plus-year history of the Wilf Campus for Senior Living. Since then, Mindy went on to become a licensed clinical social worker, spending some years living in New York City and eventually moving back to Somerset about eight years ago.

Upon her return, Mindy became involved with the Wilf Campus board through a connection formed by her late father; he had learned about the campus’ board through his involvement with Temple Beth El in Somerset and recommended Mindy for the role.

As a licensed clinical social worker and hospital administrator working predominately in the areas of psychiatry, substance abuse and behavioral health — Mindy brings an important and unique perspective to the Wilf Campus Board. She has served on an ethical committee at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Carrier Clinic and maintains an interest in such topics. “I very much liked working on the ethics statement for the campus. These matters definitely draw my interest — especially now with new related laws and changes happening in the state. I think this area is where my career and my role on the board cross over and intersect,” Mindy elaborates. She adds that working with older adults in a behavioral health setting has interfaced with her vision of growth for the campus.

Outside of her role on the board, Mindy enjoys life with her 13-year-old daughter and her husband who is a long-time resident of Somerset. Mindy is a certified yoga instructor and is trained in Yoga of 12 Step Recovery — a skill that she brings to her work-life as well.

The Wilf Campus for Senior Living appreciates the perspective that Mindy can bring and is happy to have her on board.
